CTET is held twice yearly and is a mandatory qualification (alongside a B.Ed/D.El.Ed) for teaching roles in central government and many state-government schools. Paper I qualifies for Classes 1-5, Paper II for Classes 6-8; a lifetime-valid certificate is issued to those who clear it.
Paper I: senior secondary + 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (or equivalent). Paper II: graduation + B.Ed (or equivalent), varying by subject stream. SC/ST/OBC/differently-abled candidates get a 5% relaxation in the qualifying marks required for the underlying teaching qualification.
Paper I and Paper II, each with 150 multiple-choice questions covering Child Development & Pedagogy, Language I & II, Mathematics/Environmental Studies (Paper I) or subject-specific content (Paper II).
Apply online at ctet.nic.in during the notified window; SC/ST and differently-abled candidates pay a reduced fee (₹500 for one paper / ₹600 for both, versus ₹1,000/₹1,200 for General/OBC).
